You'll be binging instead of Googling!

Microsoft Bing will replace Google in the next version of the iPhone operating system to be released in June. Microsoft and Apple were in talks over an iPhone search deal since last few months and if this is true, then it will be a big big boost for Bing and especially for Microsoft. http://microsoftfeed.com/2010/microsoft-bing-to-be-iphone-os-4-default-search-engine/[^]

He he, I guess that happened because Google bashed Apple quite a lot lately, especially at their Google I/O conference. As usual, the final user pays the price. In this case, it's just an inferior search engine, but still.

No it's not. It's a decision engine. And no, I don't know what that means either.

Microsoft knows Bing is different, they don't even call it a search engine, any idea why?

I had no idea until I read the answer just below, then I remembered! :-D As Luc Patyn said, it's a decision engine! What is that would you ask? Well the marketing guy were trying to differentiate themselves from Google, so that instead of a copycat product of an existing successful product which didn't need alternative they had a new product answering new need! (unknown to be needed until now...) Anyway, so what is their difference? Well, they are supposedly better at helping you plan you holiday, trip, new acquisition by providing on the side bar extra info not directly related to your search query words... works best with buying stuff, planning trip, booking hotel and renting a car, searching images, I had heard...

it may mean you get information with some extra value on top of it. Haven't seen much of that yet. Can't remember any of that actually. it may also mean you don't get all the answers to your questions, but you will be enticed (assisted??) to choose between the answers offered. To me that is an admission they fail as a search engine. Yes, I do remember several occasions where Google had the answer high in its list, and Bing did not. But Bing is good enough to search MSDN, so no harm done yet. I use Google a lot; I search dozens of things each day. If iPhone will use Bing rather than Google, and there would be no easy way to undo that decision, it would become my #1 reason not to buy an iPhone. :)

Then they are mad. I dislike the power Google has over what people read, but they are the better engine. Bing can be frustrating.

You can still browse to google.com and use that.

I would hope so. If I can still make it my #1 favorite, all is fine. :)
