link[^] Google Maps issued directions that told her to walk down a rural highway. She started walking down the highway--which had no sidewalk or pedestrian paths--and was struck by a car. She is suing Google for her medical expenses ($100,000), as well as punitive damages. She is also suing the driver who struck her I wish the judge could fine/jail her for wasting court time and state money. Did not notice it was posted already[^]

If you want to get a laugh, ask for directions on Google Earth from Houston, Texas to Tokyo, Japan. About half way down the list it says "Kayak across the Pacific Ocean entering Hawaii, go 2756 miles." After that it says "Kayak across Pacific Ocean entering Japan, go 3879 miles." I wonder if anyone has actually tried that?

*grin* yeah, the path to Australia is convoluted b/c they try to hit the nearest possible land instead of kayaking in a straight line. Wussies.

One of the UK Motoring Organizations (Breakdown Repair/Recovery Clubs) had some Route Planning Software that when you specified two particular towns about 250 miles apart, and on the same land mass, but specified no Motorways (Freeways) came up with a 3 day journey involving at least three Ferries and three Countries. I couldn't find a link with a Map[^].

Sometime back there was even a 'Swim across the atlantic ocean' fun in Google Maps. I had even shared that in my personal blog: http://deepakvasudevan.blogspot.com/2007/04/interesting-map-direction-in-google.html[^]
