Is is just me or does it seem like Google is taking a BIG step back by putting a background on there main page? I have fast internet but some others do not. Regardless of the speed of your connection I assume many people including myself use Google because it is simple and efficient. If I wanted frills I would go to Yahoo or Bing. I'm just a grouch most people probably don't care. Humble Programmer

The feature is optional and available through Classic Plus. I don't see how that's a step back at all.

Don't you have to switch that "feature" on and choose a background image (in iGoogle settings, IIRC).

Mine was only displaying after login as well until about 2 hours ago now it is default... probably just a promotion but still a little annoying. Humble Programmer

Yes very annoying - I use google to search for stuff, if I want to look at pretty pictures I'll go to 'My Pictures' and look at my own thank you very much. This is obviously an attempt to win over the feeble-minded masses swayed by the Bing ads on TV at the moment - 'oooh pretty pictures!'. These are the same people who regularly visit the google homepage and enter nothing but 'Facebook' or 'Big Brother' because after 5 years of owning a PC they still haven't worked out how to add it to their favourites, if these are the people Google are aiming at then prepare for a major dumbing down and prettying up exercise, it's going to be painful...

You know that love is one way, right? Men Love Women. Women Love Children. Children Love Hamsters. So cut through the whole vicarious mess, put a picture of your daughters favourite hamster on your screen, she will love it.

------------------------------------ I will never again mention that I was the poster of the One Millionth Lounge Post, nor that it was complete drivel. Dalek Dave

Hamsters have a web site to run, don't bother them with fashion shootings.

The "Remove background" option should be available from tomorrow.
