Woahh, Professor Dan, 66 messages posted in 10 years, an average of 6.6 per year. Way to go till you reach Dalek Dave and co :) And I thought, I am a low key poster.

CP is actually older (I think around 11.5 years now) The whole membership system got implemented later on. At least that's what I remember from an earlier discussion about this :)

I think the database was repopulated that day, or something of the sort... So it's really not CP's 10th birthday :)
Proud to have finally moved to the A-Ark. Which one are you in?

Chris used to be associated with CodeGuru and for a while it was a good site, then it went wonky. He started The Code Project and many of us followed him here.

November 15 1999, so not quite 11 yet.

Membership existed from the beginning, I join very early on, but the database got screwed and Chris had to reimplement and went with an Alphabetical restore giving me a much larger Member Id than I originally had.

You mean the owner sold out to one of the big guys and they fuck the site up the arse chasing dollars and it turned to shit.

THAT OTHER SITE was acquired by VC, and dying a slwo death while all engineering resources were redirected to a rewrite. (I guess the new owners just hired a new team, and fired most of the old that was suppsoed to maintain the site, as it happened with THE OTHER OTHER SITE). While Tom Archer stayed faithul to TOS, trying to save what he could with his limited resources and limited powers, Chris called it enough, and founded CodeProject, which quickly became a haven for TOS emigrants.

CodeGuru was "raised" by Zafir Anjum as a one-man show, and it was the classic case of being overrun by the beast he called. He gave a worthy struggle for years, but IMO had all reason to sell and get on with his life.

You are right!! I was trying to remember what the site was I did recall waiting for his new site to go live so we could sign up And a lot did as I recall I signed up in the morning and there were already 900 plus members Dan

I never had a problem with Zafir or his selling of CodeGuru, what I did have a problem with, is the knobheads (they had Earth in their name) who bought it, bent CodeGuru over and fuck it up the arse, hard.

According to my CodeProject profile, I have only ever posted one message  Strange, I have posted many messages. :-D

That is strange! I know I've read at least two posts from you, not including this one. ;P

July 6 was when I turned on the membership system. Up until that point we were a disorganised, unkempt lot with no fixed abode. Now we're organised.
