Good videos for learning bass?

Does anyone know of any particularly good videos for someone to learn bass guitar?
Behold, the power of the internet. I had a picture in my head of a large fish playing a banjo for "bass guitar". But a search gave me a bass fish shaped guitar: http://www.freepatentsonline.com/D503950.html[^] OK, this is of no help in your quest, but made me smile! Iain.

I would have said youtube, but check out sites like licklibrary. If you want to learn bass though you are going to have to learn scales, and just get on and try to mimic records. Stax (sam and dave etc) and Reggae are pretty fun to play on bass, simple with a good rhythm. Learn the pentatonic minor scale, its used in pretty much 70% of songs. After that the Ionian and associated scales, Aeolian, Dorian. (Actually all the same scale, just played in different positions on the fretboard over the root key, which gives you the sound)

I hadn't realised you were another muso (although technically, Aeolian, Dorian, Lydian and the like are modes not scales).

Yep, a guitarist. And yes, as I stated, they are all actualy the same scale. But when learning its easier to think of the single position shapes over the root as 'seperate'. To try to capture mentally the entire scale, in all its positions over the key when you first start learning is a bit daunting. Heck, its daunting after 20 years of playing!

Tell me about it. I have to admire the jazz greats who have complete mastery of the neck.

Thats the thing with th guitar, it can never be mastered. It is a incredibly flexible instrument. I saw a vid with a guy playing it flat on its back, on his legs, like a dulcimer. Tuned open, and playing it with a amixture of tapping, struming and fingering. I had never sen it or thought about it as a way of playing the guitar. But this guy did, and the result was amazing. I dont recall the artist othwerise I would send you the link, but its on youtube, somewhere...

Is it Jeff Healey by any chance? He was an amazing blind guitarist.
