The Digital Worm is no more a member of CodeProject, hope we all will be better of without me on CP. Somehow I didn't get fit with CP community on lounge, but believe me nothing was intentional from my end. My membership might be a month old but CP is a great source of information for me from almost 5yrs now, I'll keep looking for all technical help over here and will enjoy you guys discussion on lounge, but I think it will be better for all if I keep my fingers off the CP message bord. Take care and have a good time CPins.

There is no reason for you to leave: nobody gets this right form day one and I've posted as much crap as the next man so you just have to persevere and you'll be fine.

I can't think of anyone who has never posted at least 1 item of rubbish.

Adopt guerilla tactics. Hit and run. If you find something in real life that has humour/new tech/social implication then post about it (check for repost first). Stop worrying about reactions, either you will unconsciously adjust to the weird form of normality prevelant in The Lounge, or the lizards will get used to you. Not everyone's funny-bone is in the same place and most of us are not surgeons.

Rubbish and Drivel are all part of it. And the odd bad joke we can groan at, but there are some who have posted Nothing but rubbish, and despite fair attention, have continued. They invite that upon themselves.

DD, stop posting when you're drunk and maybe then you will have the moral ground on talking about posting rubbish.

Yeah but the frequent CCCs are nearly as bad as the jokes. I say nearly because some of the supposed jokes posted here recently have been unbelievably awful! :omg:

...it seems the temperature has changed in the Lounge over the last few months. Looking back, there was more of a spirit of leniency towards others than I find today. A couple of people in here in particular seems to be target of what I as politically correct as I possibly can will refer to as mob mentality. I seem to remember a time when people were permitted to post stuff that didn't necessarily entertain everyone without having their entire persona being scrutinised. Whereas I don't find all of their posts funny, or amusing, or entertaining, or whatever, I am willing to bear over with that waiting for the one that might just be. Certainly a lot of the self-proclaimed Guardians of the Lounge have a lot of utter drivel on their posting history as well, so why so hard on the "new" guys? Just my two cents. Feel free to throw you one-votes at the bottom-right corner of this post. //L

                  (a) If you think of the same people I think off, they brought it upon themselves. You might remember that even our own Nishbot Nishant Simakuvar got hassled until he cut down his postings to a more bearable frequency. (b) Some of these were part of a general "mobbing of overdone activity" that would IMO have got mobbed everyone, including lounge inventory. (c) Some members indeed have a problem cutting back the hassle towards members identified in (a) even though their posting content and frequency reached general lounge adequacy.

Of course not, but I reserve the right to moan about bad jokes. People downvote me for some of my posts, and that is perfectly fine, I have thick skin.

Nah, except at the very beginning it's always been this way, it just goes through cycles. I'd say that a period several years ago was far worse than anything today. It got so bad, several long time veterans left, though a few have returned since. There was another "crisis" point three years ago IIRC that was short but intense, during which other people left and I got so pissed off that I stopped visiting for several months and almost pulled my articles. (Ironically, the backlash caused one of the self-proclaimed guardians to leave for a while. That person occasionally lurks, but isn't mean and plain antagonistic as they were before. There were a few other casualties of that skirmish, but I won't list them.) More recently, there was a major blowup in the Soapbox, which was then shut down and later reincarnated in a different form (I think--I don't go there; it just isn't worth the aggravation.) But yes, if you hang around here, you will discover a weird hierarchy and cliques, just like any other social group eventually develops. Of course, also like any other social group, there are misfits who seem intent on disrupting the order of what's going on and whose snark is really mean and continually excessive. Then there is Michael Martin, a force all his own.
