A solution or sledgehammer
-
Has anyone ever encountered the problem where the System32 folder pops up during Windows start up? I happened to me about a year ago and I tried everything in the book to get rid of it: (Most important: Research), Selective Startup, Registry Cleaning, etc. I ended up formatting the hard drive and doing a fresh re-install. This approach obviously involves an extreme amount of time. Because of the developer tools must be reinstalled too. Just last month, my 'ole buddy: System32 showed up again! :sigh: Now a trend is developing. I will ignore it for awhile, then spend an entire morning trying to eliminate it. Now I am down to two things: A solution or a sledgehammer! If anyone has a solution or some destructive object, please send it to me. (Preferably the sledgehammer)
The mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work unless it’s open.

I'd grab a copy of SpyBot - enable advanced mode and goto tools, System Startup. Usually pretty useful for this type of thing - you might well be looking for a null reg entry, but it might not be in Run.

That would probably be the outcome of a Run value in the registry that is either empty with unclosed quotes, or has just a dot in it. Download a little start-up tuner and look through the entries in HKCU Run, to make sure there are no "empty" ones.
