Apply to the big boys immediately: Microsoft vacancies in Shanghai[^]. [edit] I'll probably be in Shanghai, in October, so we can say Hi.

If you're good and have a decent CV you should not have a problem getting another gig. The market (in London) appears quite bouyant right now and I am confident I should find a new contract fairly rapidly (allowing for a couple of weeks of 'resting' :-))

Here's another 3 letter phrase. FFS! Resigning without another job to go to does NOT warrant an OMG. More, what the F were you doing? Think he's just lost the sympathy vote there.

Here's another: WTF I'm in a similar situation, me and my gf moved here for this, my first graduate job, now we both desperately want out of the area and me, my job. I'm not daft enough to quit without lining up something else first though!

I used to carry a bottle of Worcestershire sauce in my hand luggage, in case I ran into any Americans, but nowadays, I have to settle for one of their advertising pamphlets :(

From what you said [^] I got no sympathy for you. You brought it on your self, man. Good Luck! I had interviewed and hired handful of people. If I hear your story ( or even slight hint ) on my interview, it will cost you dearly. My brother was stupid enough to do what you did (albeit for different reason). He disagreed with his boss about a promised training he though he will receive. When I heard he lost his job, I'd such a feeling for him I told him I will do whatever I can to lend him a hand, but when I came to know the reason of his quiting his job, he lost all my sympathy and I rescinded all my offer. Let this be a life lesson for you. Next time, if you want to quit, make sure you have alternate job (even if you have to demote yourself) at hand first.

                        Yusuf May I help you?

We ended up shipping a guy from Singapore to Shanghai recently because we could not get a reasonable hire in Shanghai. English was a requirement. You do lose the sympathy vote if you resign.

Well if you resigned then why are you surprised at not having a job? You did say OMG. I find that if you resign, you tend to be out of a job, and to do it for a girl is a bit dim. "Hi honey, I love you so much I want to drag you into penury and the workhouse".

Possibly. His posting history is a tad sparse, so it's hard to tell. The switch from "I was fired" to "I quit" certainly looks suspect. Shanghai women can be hard to discuss things with, though (I ought to know; I married one!), and his best English for "I had to give up" might be "I lost", so I'll watch with reasonable interest what the next moves will be.

Unbelievable, isn't it? The population of Shanghai is higher than the population of the entire Netherlands, but there are so many foreign companies there that anyone half decent gets snapped up immediately.
