My point was that you should make it a habit. It is a very good habit. In fact it is one of the most important habits. Most of us learn, very early in our careers, to save early and save often.

Need custom software developed? I do custom programming based primarily on MS tools with an emphasis on C# development and consulting. I also do Android Programming as I find it a refreshing break from the MS. "And they, since they Were not the one dead, turned to their affairs" -- Robert Frost

Unless you are working with an office plugin that takes 30 seconds for each save, blocking Word. Still, 5.

We had a power cut in office today... UPS too trips down and we lost our unsaved work! It took the maintenance guys an hour to bring back the network up and running again.

I've had more than one UPS stop working as such without any warning whatsoever until the power went down and so did the UPS.

Are you still talking about code? That expression applies to a lot of other things too. :)

What is this unsaved work you speak of? I hit Alt+F+S so often that I even do it in Query Analyzer before exiting a query screen (Although in this case I usually don't want to save).

That's what I'm known for in the office, too... Every couple of seconds people are hearing a ridiculously quick keystroke combination and usually multiple times. Alt-F-S is your friend, my friend...

At my last company, there was a server failure during a backup. Unfortunately, the current backup completely obliterates the previous backup, so they were left with no backup. That was a fun one to recover from.

Between the odd power outage and some oversold bandwidth between me and my production server I do it almost constantly. Now I just need to remember which editor it was I was using that ctrl-s did something completely different and I was frustrating the snot out of myself because I couldn't stop myself from pressing it. I think I used it for all of an hour before switching to note pad and eventually copying my file into the other editor for some reason or another.

Seems like it would go without saying. I'm not even sure they fixed the backup procedures after that monumental failure. They wanted to downplay it like it wasn't a big deal, so they couldn't allocate resources to fix a problem that wasn't a big deal. Excellent plan. Excellent. X|

We had that happen about 2 weeks ago when some storms rolled through. It was also the first time that has ever happened to me at work. The bad part about it is that last year the building was closed for a day because an "upgrade" to the electrical system caught fire the first time it was under load. We had portable generators in trucks powering the complex for a week until the contractor could get a new permanent generator installed. Apparently this contractor didn't do a good job of it.

I doubt that you spend most of your time here.
