They must want to produce chips that consume huge amounts of their own resources.

Ah, McAfee... I remember using it back in the day... Had to be the early 90s or thereabouts, when the Monkey/B virus started to run rampant. My school got completely infected, and they were all using Norton. Norton, at the time, wasn't so good with boot sector viruses though, so if you used it to clean Monkey/B, it would wipe the boot sector and brick your machine (Well, there were ways to fix it, but they were beyond most people). But if you popped McAfee on a read-only floppy, you could wipe out Monkey/B in two seconds flat, with no side effects. It was because of that incident that I used McAfee for the next... Oh, ten years or so, I think... Now everything's Norton/Symantec on XP, or MSE on Weven.

Proud to have finally moved to the A-Ark. Which one are you in?

that brings back memories. I don't know what they used to clean up but that was one of the two viruses my HS got while I was a student. The other was anti-exe.

They could have done better and bought Symantec.

I resent that remark! The implication there is that they are now better!
