Thanks to those who replied yesterday - I went down to the local Curry's (cheers baconbutty) and tried a few out and eventually settled on a Nikon S8000[^]. I had quite liked the look of the Sony cameras but the picture quality on the Nikon was heads and shoulders above. Now I just need to make sure that I actually remember to take it to the wedding tomorrow and don't just leave it in my pocket all day!! :)

Good luck. The latter is my biggest ongoing problem....

Don't forget to charge the batteries (*) and to have the memory card in. Does it requires a full discharge + full recharge to have optimum performance ?

        Watched code never compiles.

More important: Don't forget to take it back home. You know how it is at weddings: a few drinks too much, taking photos of the beautiful bridesmaid, putting it on the table and the next thing in the morning is, that you remember you had a great camera once... But seriously, Nikon? Well, you know best. :-D

I've put in the memory card and it's sat charging at the moment. No idea about the discharge / recharge situation. Apparently once fully charged it's enough for a couple of hundred pictures and I doubt I'll be taking that many!

Consumer batteries haven't had memory effects since the NiCad era. Aside from an occasional cycle to calibrate the capacity meter there's no need to do full cycles.

He took it all too far, but boy could he play guitar!

I bought a Kodak easy share a while ago and it does panoramics by having you take 3 pictures and then stitches them together. Does this camera do that? I couldn't tell based on the link.

Not as far as I can see - for me it's the sort of feature I'd use once or twice and then forget about so I just went for what looked like the better picture. EDIT: I've just been and played with it and it does have a 'panorama assist' mode which looks something similar to the feature on the Kodak!
