We had a "new" idea, so we made it weird!

Just look at this[^] This just screams "yes we made it electric.. but to really show that it is different, we also made it weird" - and it pisses me off. This kind of nonsense happens all the time. Compressed-air car is weird[^] Electric cars are weird Etc. This is not "functional" weirdness. This is a quite normal electric car.[^] I also think I know enough about airplanes (I can fly the small ones) that I can say that they could just have made it look normal.
Why? Why do all cars have to look pretty much the same? What about non-electric[^] cars[^] that[^] look[^] "weird?" Sure, we're used to these now, but they don't exactly look like just another sedan...

That's different, they have weirdness as a feature, not as something slapped on "because they had to" or "because their main feature is not visible enough" or something lame like that.
Maybe they wanted to do it differently, but the inherent limitations of a gasoline-based design prevented them. After all, wires are more versatile than fuel lines, and don't need as much protection... Gasoline engines are heavier than electric ones (I think), though the battery is heavier than the fuel tank... In an electric car, it's feasible to have one engine for each axle or wheel instead of one for the entire car...

Author of the Guardians Saga (Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels)That's nice, but making a car look like some 5 year old drew it does not make it better. Those cars look like some perverse designer thought that making them look like the retarded little brother of a real car would be more fun than making them streamlined.

Well, the ones you linked are just the "small" variety... Electric drive-trains work well on smaller vehicles, so it's economical to make a different type of vehicle... Now, if you wanted to link a WEIRD one, you would have gone with this[^], this[^], or the absolute coolest-looking EV, this[^].

They are not just small, did you even look at them? And yes those you linked too are weird as well, but I thought 4 examples would do.

Weird or not, I'd sell my first-born son* for an Aptera... * I have no children, and no intention of having any... So could I just get an Aptera for free?

Congratulations, on the most irrelevant post in the thread so far.

Hey, asshole. Buy American. :suss:
Once you agree to clans, tribes, governments...you've opted for socialism. The rest is just details.
The Japanese know how to make better cars. American cars are overpriced rustbuckets made by union obamanoid thugs.

May want to check up on that, my Scion was made here in the US. Pretty nice little car too. The people responsible for the American cars being crap are most likely not members of a union. I haven't heard of to many white collar automotive designer unions.

Why would I buy a foreign car?

While the comment was directed at CSS, unfortunately a resident of the land of the free and the home of the brave, you're free to buy what you want. How many domestic choices to you Brits have left?

Oddly enough Nissan, Honda and others are made in the UK - it looks like Saab are next! In part because we have one of the best car parts manufacturing industries in Europe. For all the politicians putting manufacturing down we're doing better.
