GO back to its founding days. Samuel Adams, Boston traders/marketeers/smugglers, dress up as natives, and attack British ships carrying tea to: 1) Protect their market 2) To try to break the treaty between the British and the native americans; a treaty that guaranteed that the interior of the US would not come under British control. Then I thought of the Ford whats its name with the exploding fuel tank, the copany decided it was cheaper to pay out for deaths than to fix the design. The Iraq war, whose sole intent was to secure an oil supply. When one realises how close US government is to US big business is there anything the US has done that ISNT for menetary gain and prompted by business interests?

Morality is indistinguishable from social proscription

And this is compared to whom? To Great Britain’s bunny-hugging foreign politics during the last few hundred years? Or to any other former or present superpower?

Yeah, screw the fact that the US didn't strip western europe of everything useful after WWII, and spent billions of 1940's $ on the Marshall plan, building up industry that trashed us in the 60s & 70s. It was just long range suck on the market we knew you'd become. But, hey, everyone knows the EU and all its subunits are mother teresa's habit, right? Germany was never in it for the money, they just wanted to control the world. What's the harm in a little liebenstrum? France hasn't had a military success since they helped kick the brits out of the us. The brits haven't done much for anyone since argentina (which I will forever appreciate), and they are the ones who are so bad they helped the us most. Spain, portugal, all those poor lost colonies. I know the whole lot of you gave up colonization out of the goodness of your black little hearts, right? Germany got split in two, west paid east to take their toxic waste, then they got stuck with it on reunification, and still had to take care of the low life east. fat_boy, your comment isn't even stupid. Where are you from, again? Whose education system are you a product of? How did you learn to type and nothing else? ------------------------------------------------------- I am purposely not including the latest entrants to nato, as they seem to understand that this life you live isn't free. I know i'm pissing off a lot of good people, who aren't as arrogant as fat_boy, and learned a little better history - not that showed the us was the cat's meow, but that learned freedom costs lives and blood so that shits like him can talk his trash. I'd like to apologize to all the little eu states I missed, and if you'll let me know who you are, i'll remember to add you to my future tirades, unless i forget.

I agree: even if what they do for themselves is for pecuniary advantage the spin-offs enhance all our lives and to imagine that any 'empire' does anything for the good of the people is being more than a little naive. The best you can hope for is that an empire wants to sell you something and not enslave you. That is enlightened (and welcome) empire. And I'd much rather be part of the USA than part of the utter shambles that is Europe.

All right... all right... but apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order... what have the Romans Americans ever done for us?

I find it amusing that of the first three replies to a Life of Brian quote, only one of them actually seemed to recognize it. The others should turn in their geek cards immediately.

Proud to have finally moved to the A-Ark. Which one are you in?

The same as the mental disease certificate, but it comes in a different color and you’re not eligible for a public welfare. Other than that there are no significant differences.
