I've never lied on a CV, mainly becuase it would be quickly found out having got a job because of it, and then forever tarnish your reputation! :)

Not much point in lying on a resume if you've got stuff you've done. However the specific does tend to become the general: "I spent a year writing a data recovery automation program" becomes "I can program data recovery automation operations" or perhaps "I programmed data recovery operations for 1 year"

I think becomes more like: I designed and built the prototype of a data recovery system. Then lead a team of 5 developer, 2 QA testers and a deployment expert to deliver a full fledged enterprise level data recovery system. In reality he took a year to work out how to zip a file in VB.
