I would like to use this medium to reach out to those in charge of the development of the Windows Phone 7 and ask why my country(Nigeria) has not yet been included in the list of countries whose developers can submit apps to the marketplace and when they plan to include it. I see the Windows Phone as a great platform for developing applications and i think anybody should be allowed to develop for the platform irrespective of the country or region and Nigeria has many great WP developers. Therefore I am asking Microsoft to consider this or they lose a perfectly good app in their Marketplace come October.

Perhaps you should tell them about this sort of thing directly? I know people report bugs by the Microsoft Connect site, maybe you should report this on there? I'm quite surprised that they even have a restriction on where applications come from, seems a bit restricitive and more likely to make people go to something like the IPhone etc!

Knowing Apple, then yes it probably is more restrictive! :) I'm happy with writing applications for my own phone (Java) none of the Apple removing your application from their store nonsense!

The reason is, probably, commercial regulations. For example for the EU area Microsoft, Apple and Google manage their marketplaces from Ireland, but just because in EU regulations regarding taxes and such are pretty much the same if not completely identical in all EU Countries. It's likely that they figured the Nigerian market is not large enough for being worth the effort of fulfilling commercial/tax regulations. Please keep in mind that in this case, they're not selling a product to Nigerian customers, but they potentially have to pay Nigerian developers, which (I imagine) is a completely different matter. I'm not saying it's fair, it's just business. I (as a small business owner) would not hire developers outside EU and USA/Canada as it would be a potential source of problems and headaches.

Like Dario pointed out, it must do with software import restrictions rather than any bias from MS. I'd hazard a guess that Iran and Iraq are out of the list too. The best bet is to reach out to Microsoft on ony possible workarounds.
