The correct plural of Octopus in British English. There - you've learned something new today.

Feeling cranky today, Mr. Maunder? Hamsters getting you down? Or is it just the continual mucking out of the Lounge? I suggest: Bike.

I would have thought that it was the plural in Latin Latin.

Is that like Latin for people who stutter? [I have a Latin book beside me and I think any rendom sentence would be baned from the Lounge. The title is "How to Insult, Abuse & Insinuate in Classic Latin". It is a pure joy, like puella defututa.

I doubt it very much. And there is a lot on the subject according to Google. It seems like Octopuses is common, Octopi ("Latin") too; Octopods and Octopodes are scientific. Here is one authority[^], note the required accent. Mind you, their Greek spelling is incorrect here: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/octopus. (once more the fail-to-paste-a-link-bug) :)

in my experience: 1. it works well when no text is selected (first paste link, then change the text it shows); 2. it fails seemingly randomly when text is selected (type text to become link text, select it, then make it a link by pasting a URL) 3. it seems to depend on where on the text line the selection is; first word works well most of the time, last word often fails. And then it shows rather infrequently, making it hard for a proper black-box investigation. :)

When I saw the word octopodes, I thought it should be pronounced octo-podes. After watching that video,...I now know it is pronounced oc-top-oh-dees (since it is greek). that is what I learned from that video However, I think I'll stick with Max's pluralization posted above...octopussies

Maybe Verity Stob[^] would appreciate that. :)

Reminds me of all the Canadians here who keep insisting I'm the one with the accent. If only they could here hear themselves! Crazy, I tell you. [Edit: Coffee! Stat!]

Okay from now on, I'll type with an accent, too. That's much better, eh. :)
