Agreed. He should be put in prison to reflect on his actions rather than killed and being freed from his responsibilities. Trouble is the people in charge have some strange notion that he will suffer in hell when he is killed.

If by vindication you mean revenge, I don't recall revenge being promoted at Sunday services at my church.
2 Kings 2:23-25. God sends two bears to rip apart 42 kids for taking the p*ss out of Elisha's bald head.

I do not denounce the followers of any religious or spiritual teaching. Until, that is, they attempt to pass judgement on or create laws that will alter my life, life style, beliefs or customs for the sake of what they believe in.

Believe it or not, I agree with this, at least up to the point where your choices hurt others. For example, I believe you -- well, maybe not you ;) -- should be allowed to drink alcohol (because any harm is to yourself) but that you shouldn't be allowed to drive drunk (because of the potential to kill someone else). Anyway, thanks for the discussion!

If I meant revenge, I would have used that word. I specifically used the word vindication because that is the term typically used by religions to "soften" the verbiage. BTW... What is the point of following your god if all you get out of it in life is persecution and hardship. People never do anything truly out of selflessness, especially the religious. The payoff is that god will punish the sinner eternally and the believer will live in glory eternally. It is pretty blatant that this is vindication by the religious definition, and revenge to the objective observer. BTW... I'm certainly not meaning this as a personal slight to your or your church's beliefs. I'm just venting on what has bothered me for many years of being the child of fundies.

I respectfully disagree. I'll grant you that there are some people like this, but not all of us. I'd say (though I have nothing but my personal beliefs, my faith in people, and my personal experience to back it up) that the majority of Christians (and please don't throw the "Westboro wingnuts" at me, I -- and every Christian I know personally -- strongly repudiate what those misguided people are doing) want to see everyone "living in glory eternally." I don't see how this entire conversation ended up in religion. Aziz was convited of crimes that deserve death. This has nothing at all to do with religion.
