See Here[^]. Not getting political, but is it a case now of Tariq As Was?

Personally, I think there's been enough killing, and killing one more guy won't help anything.

Agreed. He should be put in prison to reflect on his actions rather than killed and being freed from his responsibilities. Trouble is the people in charge have some strange notion that he will suffer in hell when he is killed.

I like this old joke: Q. When does Sadam Hussain have breakfast? A. When Tariq has his.

Religious belief always demands vindication. It's sad in this day and age that people still believe stuff like this.

Aziz is a Christian, so perhaps a Crucifiction should be in order.

If by vindication you mean revenge, I don't recall revenge being promoted at Sunday services at my church.

Vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord. An Eye for an Eye. Give unto Caeser that which is Ceasers. And of course, as Jesus said, Slaves should obey their masters and should only be beaten if they were disobedient.

2 Kings 2:23-25. God sends two bears to rip apart 42 kids for taking the p*ss out of Elisha's bald head.

                      The Bible wrote:

2:23 And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. 2:24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

Having a brother who was a vicar helps!

Well, it helped me to find all the bits where his religion conflicts with itself.

Where does this preach human revenge? My point was that I don't hear sermons encouraging me to take revenge at my church. This statement would seem to reinforce my point rather than weakening it. :)

A statement indicating that people should obey the laws, specifically tax law in that quote.

Another statement of obedience to laws. All that said, pulling individual verses out of context to "prove" ones point is to enter into dangerous territory. I only did so with the "turn the other cheek" with tongue firmly planted in my cheek. I try to ignore the antireligious sentiment I sometimes see here but this morning I failed. I don't denounce people who don't follow Christ (doing so would be wrong) and am saddened when those people feel the need to denounce people like me who have a strong and abiding faith. Anyway, time to get back to work. God bless you and have a great day!

Believe it or not, I agree with this, at least up to the point where your choices hurt others. For example, I believe you -- well, maybe not you ;) -- should be allowed to drink alcohol (because any harm is to yourself) but that you shouldn't be allowed to drive drunk (because of the potential to kill someone else). Anyway, thanks for the discussion!

If by vindication you mean revenge, I don't recall revenge being promoted at Sunday services at my church.

If I meant revenge, I would have used that word. I specifically used the word vindication because that is the term typically used by religions to "soften" the verbiage. BTW... What is the point of following your god if all you get out of it in life is persecution and hardship. People never do anything truly out of selflessness, especially the religious. The payoff is that god will punish the sinner eternally and the believer will live in glory eternally. It is pretty blatant that this is vindication by the religious definition, and revenge to the objective observer. BTW... I'm certainly not meaning this as a personal slight to your or your church's beliefs. I'm just venting on what has bothered me for many years of being the child of fundies.

                                    I wasn't, now I am, then I won't be anymore.

In this life I (hopefully) get the pleasure of seeing others make their way to the same kind of relationship I have with my God. Even without this, my reward is waiting for me in heaven.

I respectfully disagree. I'll grant you that there are some people like this, but not all of us. I'd say (though I have nothing but my personal beliefs, my faith in people, and my personal experience to back it up) that the majority of Christians (and please don't throw the "Westboro wingnuts" at me, I -- and every Christian I know personally -- strongly repudiate what those misguided people are doing) want to see everyone "living in glory eternally." Anyway, God bless you and thanks for the conversation!

Aziz is a Christian, so perhaps a Crucifiction should be in order.

Where does this preach human revenge? My point was that I don't hear sermons encouraging me to take revenge at my church. This statement would seem to reinforce my point rather than weakening it. :)

I don't see how this entire conversation ended up in religion. Aziz was convited of crimes that deserve death. This has nothing at all to do with religion.
