Thank you. I'm worried about the relatively 'small' display (I've to say my only experience so far was with my nokia N73 display, all about scrolling...). Do you read a lot? :)

Get Kindle you will not regret it. Actually, I take it back. Once you get an e-book reader you spend more on books just because it is so easy to download and read books.

Noting to worry there, the size is similar to a standard book page and you are able to change the font size to fits to your eyes. Just an example – yesterday I bought a SciFi book with a price of the paper back format $15, the Kindle version was $3.4 and you save a tree! :)

Depends from what you’re doing when you’re NOT reading. If you’re doing some sports, walks etc. you are right; but if you’re playing games, siting on front of the computer, working, watching the idiot box, drinking, jacking of etc. I would prefer the Kindle. Okay, probably I’m not right for the games and the drinking. :-D

I just got the black Kindle... and I like it. Easy to use, good screen, very clear. I wish it was a BIT bigger though :)

No, I’m the official Kindle zealot here. If you turn of the 3G the battery lasts something like two weeks so it suitable for a camping vacations /See! A zealot! /.

Kindle is great. There are also other good ebook readers (Sony, for instance) - just be sure to have a proper epaper screen and not LCD one (like tablets).

Well, I don't believe the eco bill adds up because of "saving a tree". Paper can be made from a a quickly renewable ressource, in a process that's mostly self-powering, not completely free of troublesome waste though, IIRC. I've run into that with the regular kindle. It would have worked fine if I figured out a way to remove the margins from the pdf, however the converters I found seem to try to keep every part of the formatting.

I know that some paper factories use only softwood and plant more trees then they use for manufacturing. Additionally they only use the tip of the tree, the rest is going into furniture industry but it’s not valid in every country, look what happens with the Amazon jungle. It is all a matter of scale actually; for the last 6 mounts I’ve read some 30 books and this is a lot of paper and if you read newspapers that would be 180 newspapers for this period. Also consider that printing books and newspapers is not involving only paper but also a lot of different chemistry and the majority of your money goes to the printing, not to the author or the publisher. From the other side are the electronic readers. Yes it takes some industrial potential/already existent/ to produce one together with a little plastic, silicon/sand/ and steel all together in a price of $100, but you can use it a decade. This could be a hundreds of books and thousands of newspapers. Also you probably know that the process of producing paper includes a huge amount of water and a huge amount of energy/they practically grind the logs/. Compare this to a small electronic device.

I bought the Boss Lady a Kindle (the BIG one!) for her birthday. Within six months, it had paid for itself with the money she saved buying books. She cruises the book market almost daily. When she sees something new, interesting, and FREE, she will download it. Lots of times there will be a price on it a few days later. Even when she buys a book at the Kindle price, it is always cheaper than the tree version. I can go online and order books I like. Then read them on my Android phone with the free Kindle app. Oh, I wouldn't worry about the screen size. I have read several books on my phone, and its screen is substantially smaller than the 6" Kindle's.

After contemplating this for literally years I bought the Sony Touch edition 650 about a month ago and am extremely happy with it. From what I can tell it's the best one if you don't find connecting to your computer to download books onerous and want to save battery life by doing away with the wifi and appreciate things like being able to double tap on a word for an instant definition with the touch screen. The very latest E-Ink display (last couple of months, not all products have them) is miles above the older ones as you can see in this review as well. Sony should pay that poor woman for all the follow up questions she's patiently answered even though most are covered in the review she did itself.

It's only about an inch smaller than the text area on a normal a mass market paperback although it can be closer to two if the publisher does something silly like not using any margins at all. X|
