What is wrong in begging for votes ?

Aren't we in a sort of democratic forum? What is so wrong in begging nicely for votes? I just asked to vote in general, and to vote mine if you thinked it deserved... It is just a normal appeal against astensionism! or so I thought...

In a Tech forum or the Q&A it is often ok to put a line at the bottom asking for a vote if the answer is helpful, for many of those asking are not regulars and do not know the 'form' for such things. In the lounge it is considered bad form to ask, as we all know whether a post deserves a plus or not. It is likely that asking for a plus vote will result in the sheer-bloody-mindedness factor rising to dangerous levels, and you will be inundated with 1 votes for your cheek!

If the article is really good then it doesn't need the 'begging' boost. :)

:) It's not wrong to beg for votes (good or bad), it just won't work. People do not like to be pushed, that's life I'm afraid. :sigh: Keep writing articles, but let people find them and vote for them when they want to, you will get a much softer ride!

You don't "tell" people to go and do something if they thought they wanted to do it. They'll do it if they want to.

Astensionism?! That's not even a word. X|

It's just not the done thing old chap. If a chaps article is good enough for the chaps to vote, then the chaps will. BTW - the word is abstention. Seriously though, don't you think it does the others a disservice. What if they were all lounge regulars?

Why oh why would you want to? Do the points mean that much to people? I don't get it. It's nice to see a few people give a vote to an article you've written or even a message post. Everybody likes to think they've done something that someone else found useful. But what's the point in getting points for the sake of it? Is there some benefit or privilage that acrues from having a high CodeProject score that I'm unaware of? I don't get the facination. -Richard
