Westboro Baptist church hosting

With the recent visit of these clowns I thought I'd look up their website and see who is hosting them. Like Glenn Beck's sponsors I don't see why people couldn't organize around the idea of petitioning their hosting provider to shut their site down. It's very peaceful and nonviolent. This is what I got directly copied and pasted from the lookup: Registrant: Westboro Baptist Church PO BOX 1886 Topeka, KS 66601-1886 US 785-233-4162 Domain Name: GODHATESFAGS.COM Administrative Contact: Phelps, Benjamin PO BOX 1886 Topeka, KS 66601-1886 US 785-233-4162 Technical Contact: Phelps, Benjamin PO BOX 1886 Topeka, KS 66601-1886 US 785-233-4162 Record last updated 11-20-2007 11:34:02 PM Record expires on 11-06-2017 Record created on 01-22-1997 Domain servers in listed order: NS1.SPEAKFREE.NET 70.184.229.59 NS2.SPEAKFREE.NET 70.252.169.188 WHOIS - godhatesfags.com Registrar: DIRECTNIC, LTD Status: clientDeleteProhibited Dates: Created 22-jan-1997 Updated 16-jul-2009 Expires 06-nov-2017 DNS Servers: NS1.SPEAKFREE.NET NS2.SPEAKFREE.NET

When behavior crosses the line from free speech into hate crime to the extent these guys do, I really wish they would just get convicted of something so that they could spend a couple of years behind bars, but in front of their greatest fear....
I wasn't, now I am, then I won't be anymore.

>petitioning their hosting provider to shut their site down That is un-American. Also, the proper channel to deal with their protesting of military funerals is for the local city officials to declare a no-bystander/protester zone much like they do for parade routes or festivities all the time. >It's very peaceful and nonviolent These alone are not the measures by which you want to gauge a just society. Rather than utilize tactics which can lead to activities that edge closer and closer to violating the laws of the land, it would be far better for your cause to openly engage those who you oppose. We (USA) live in a free society that grants you liberties of open speech that don't exist in many other places, so use it. Leave the subversive tactics to those who live under tyrannies.

What makes something un-American? Telling a company you don't like their support of a particular view is also free speech.

The how do you judge a society to be judged? These are not the only criteria, but they are certainly some of them.

Free speech is only free from the government's interference not companies or other person's. Pressuring companies by protesting or petitioning them is democratic.

>What makes something un-American? In this case, conducting activities to shutdown an assembly of people because we don't like their message while the message is not seditious. Remember the US Constitution places restraints on the Federal government's powers, it does not restrain you from violating the principles set forth by the founders--who believed that speech, especially political speech is good for the nation--the more kinds of political speech in the public forum, the better. >The how do you judge a society to be judged? By those things that make a just society. Petitioning businesses or sponsors who are trying to survive can easily turn into intimidation. This can be legal, but not just or fair. >Pressuring companies by protesting or petitioning them is democratic. This statement just qualifies the subversive tactics as democratic in nature. Democratic does not mean it are is fair. What if we decided to have a referendum on the next ballot to re-enslave African decendents?

After reading about the first Supreme Court rulings and the positions of the founds on issues I find their tactics no different then today. The founders were not without their errors. They were quite hypocritical and not the legends everyone likes to make them out to be.

Tell that to the businesses like Bank of America, JPMorgan, Citigroup, Exxon, etc who routinely use their money to spread disinformation and lies into the political discourse. I'm sure these companies are just trying to survive with their billions in bailouts. Intimidation by protest is what got us Civil Rights for black people, women's rights, and unions to form. Civil disobedience is a legitimate tool against businesses who run afoul of society. If I apply your logic to other situations than anti-abortionists who protest doctors are un-American in their protest. Businesses aren't people and they don't have any right to exist. If you want to treat a business like a person, as the Supreme Court has chosen to do, then putting it in jail should be no problem and should be able to vote in elections, bare arms, etc. I don't think that's what you want though. Businesses will always have the upper hand in any discussion held in the public arena due to money and political organizations like the US Chamber of Commerce. Protests, petitions and the like are the only means any citizen has in getting large organizations who sole purpose is gaining more money to change it's ways.

It's not a crime to hate. It's a crime when their hate infringes on the freedoms of others.

I haven't seen that except from the likes of liberals and marxists.

Presumably only after due process of law, though. You wouldn't want to infringe the rights of liberals, just because you hate them.
