AVG sucks

I have been using AVG Free and about a month ago upgraded to 2011. Well, tonight they pushed an update that crashed my system.:mad: Safe-mode didn't even work. I had to use another system to burn a copy of my Win7 x64 MSDN DVD so that I could boot to it so that I could run a System Restore. That was the only thing that worked. After I got my system going again I went out to there support forum and it has quite a few posts with people experiencing the very same thing with XP, Vista and 7 both 32bit and 64bit. So, if anybody is using AVG 2011 -- DON'T LET IT UPDATE THE PROGRAM!!!!! You have been warned.

Same thing happened about 6 months back on my GF's netbook. Installing Ubuntu side-by-side apparently fixed it :)

Accumulating the frequent comments about AVG here and there, that's like saying "if you are hammering a nail through your knee, make sure the nail is clean". There's Avira Antivir[^] (free for personal use), and Microsoft Securtiy Essentials[^] (ditto).

I dumped AVG last week. I've switched over to MSE and #touch wood# it's working fine.

Jystad, 2001I'm sorry. :sigh: I will take my punishment - of course I would think AVG crashing my system would be punishment enough. I was just so frustrated that I couldn't remember the correct format ("Why [xxxx] Sucks Today") and I didn't want to lose the mood.
