CUJ subscription - you won't believe this !!!
-
I have previously posted here about my sad & sorry experiences with CUJ/WDJ subscriptions. For those who missed it, basically despite numerous attempts to get them to send mags to me in Australia, the bills I got kept saying Austria and no mags ever arrived, then they cancelled my sub. As a result of this, eventually people from the mag ( as opposed to the subscription house ) stepped in and offered me some free mags ( as I had missed some in the newsagent, expecting them to arrive any day in the post, and they cost $15 each, after all ) and a T-shirt as well as restarting my subscription. The extra stuff from WDJ never came, despite a couple of emails, and in fact only one mag came, although they only this month ( read about 4 months later ) have sent a letter telling me they cancelled my subscription again. This is the amazing bit. My CUJ subscription started out fine, and to my knowledge is still going. I asked at the time if I could pay in order to fix the whole thing, but was advised to pay on invoice. The invoice came, and I wrote to the email address on the bill to make sure they knew the situation and would bill the right account, and that I could email my VISA details, and two weeks later - you guessed it, they have not replied !!! Apparently they don't want my money, which means my subscription will lapse AGAIN and I will find the only mags which it is possible to subscribe to are MSDN ( stands for 'Gone to the Dogs' in Swahili ) and VCDJ ( damn fine mag if I do say so myself ). CUJ & WDJ remain Herculean tasks beyond the capabilities of a mere mortal such as myself. Has anyone else had this sort of experience ? I can't believe these people don't want my money to the point of ignoring the instructions of the publisher (WDJ) and not replying when I offer to pay them (CUJ). I've written to people from both mags and found them all polite, helpful, &tc., so the problem is clearly with Neodata. I even wrote direct to Cherilyn Olmsted, the person in charge of 'Customer Relations' at Neodata but surprise, surprise, no reply. Christian The content of this post is not necessarily the opinion of my yadda yadda yadda. To understand recursion, we must first understand recursion.

I talked to Ann Jesse at CUJ about this and she was extremely unhappy with the company handling the subscriptions, so I'll have another word with her and see what the deal is. cheers, Chris Maunder

Thanks Chris - I actually wrote to her direct tonight, as I still had her email from last time. On another front, it's nice to see I'm not the only one working nights... ;) Christian The content of this post is not necessarily the opinion of my yadda yadda yadda. Hi, Part of your post makes me remember a Motor -Sport Journalist I met several years ago. :-) He regularly wrote about the great exploits of Nikii Lauda, The great Australian Formula One Champion ! :-) "I know this soundz just too stupid to be true" But Also the way you have been treated is Pathetic, And you have every right to complain. A lot of folk complain in these forums for useless reasons, But I think you have a genuine Complaint ! I'd almost suggest taking legal action, except the values are too small possibly. Hope you can sort this out Regardz Colin

Ex-Squeeze me Colin, but surely I misunderstood  >> He regularly wrote about the great exploits of Nikii Lauda, The great Australian Formula One Champion It's Niki not Nikii and he's from Austria not Austrialia:) You are quite correct though that he was a great champion/driver of his era. I still believe his 2nd place finish in the '76 world championship was a far greater display of his talent and determination than any other year with Ferrari and McLaren where he won championships.

The sad thing is the people who create the mags are all so nice & helpful - it's the clowns in the subscription dept. that let them all down. Once again, as has happened before, the response from people at CUJ has been excellent and I have no doubt that they will again give the sub. dept. a good whack over the head, and hopefully my ordeal will be over..... Too hot to sleep - in Canberra????? :-) (Have you ever spend a summer in Brisbane Chris?) I had mag subscription experiences similar to Christian quite a few years ago (WDJ from memory). We kept getting bills from the publisher AND and the local distributor. Despite sending off reams of letters and emails we never managed to get it sorted. Eventually we just cancelled the subscription and I asked my local news agency to hold a copy for me each month, which they were happy to do, and everything worked out fine. Steve

Yeah - it's meant to be 30 degrees here too today. Oh - you mean in F? Ah, that's too bad ;P Ann Jesse has written to me to say she is looking at the subscription process from start to finish to try and find where the glitches are. cheers, Chris Maunder

-1°C! Oh boo hoo! Let's see at 1am it's sitting at -21°C, last night it was around -33°C (no windchill - this is the real temp.) By the weekend a Chinook is supposed to blow in and temperatures should rise well above zero. You gotta love Calgary weather! Christian. If you remember the last time you posted about this I replied with my very similiar woes trying to get CUJ and WDJ delivered. I thought it's only fair to post some kudos after posting complaints last time. I think Chris passed my name to Ann and she contacted me right away and we worked out the details of my problem and she offered a free subscription. Well the first two issues just arrived and I don't anticipate (fingers crossed) any more problems. So thanks to Chris and Ann and I hope you get this whole mess sorted out soon.

So what is it about Calgary that you love most? I was tempted to pop on over to experience some real weather but common sense mixed with a little self preservation got the better of me. Glad to hear that the subscription is working out. Ann has been great. cheers, Chris Maunder
