Job Hunting

Hi Chaps Can anyone suggest a Job Site where I can search and put my details up without being constantly bombarded by agencies giving me jobs in locations I dont want them! Basically I am looking to relocate and I only am interested in Jobs where I am relocating to, not where i am at the moment.. No matter how many times i put it up in my profile, agencies would still tell me about positions based where I am now! So I am looking for a decent Job site, where i can browse and possibly contact employers directly, rather than Get harrassed by Agencies and end up browsing millions of "Trolled" jobs posted by Agencies to get people on their books.. Surely in these recessive times, its cheaper for employers to advertise direct? JC

Simple: Give false contact details. If they can't find you, they can't carpet-bomb you with cr@p.
Real men don't use instructions. They are only the manufacturers opinion on how to put the thing together.

Once you post your contact details, you should expect at least 80% responses for locations/jobs you have no interest in. Some alternatives: 1. Call agency and talk to recruiter. Make it clear what you're not interested in. 2. Repeat (1) several times. 3. Search for jobs in online job sites. Pick only jobs that fit.
Best wishes, Hans

When I was looking for a job I rarely used "job seeking sites". I had great success with actually going to the company's website that I wanted to work for and submit my resume to them directly through their job postings page. Not all companies have a job postings page; so I would contact them first via e-mail/phone and get in touch with their HR department. "Ask" them if it is OK to submit your resume for consideration and follow up with a phone call in 5-7 business days from submission. My company doesn't use the conventional "job seeking site" and I know that most companies like mine don't either. They take notice to people who have researched their company and contact them directly via the correct avenues (i.e. no blind e-mail submissions). My 2 cents. Good luck!!

It somewhat depends on where you are going to relocate to. Many employers only use agencies to find new IT employees which makes it hard for qualified individuals to get work when they refuse to work with an agency. Also, there really are many decent local agencies in various areas. As it has always been, networking, is the best way to get a job. Barring that, check out local newspaper listings and local career sites. Within the US there are a few good "head hunting" agencies. My employer uses Apex systems and in the past we have been pleased with the candidates they send our way. The couple of individuals we hired through them both thought Apex did a good job, didn't harass them, and in general were happy. Our current opening for a geek/software developer is taking a while to fill, but we still expect them to come through for us. Another agency I've heard good things about is Tek systems. -Matt Oops. Forgot to mention Stack Overflow. You will get calls from agencies, but again, I've heard that Stack Overflow has worked well for some.

When I was looking last year I think the only site I remember that allowed you to specify current location and then a target location as well was monster.co.uk Still ended up finding a job myself haha.
