Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. I hope everyone will take a moment to preserve the memory of this great tragedy.

    Best wishes, Hans

I 5'd you as well. Someone must have it out for you and a few others today or maybe it was just the topic.

I'm trying hard not to be controversial here because this was truly a tragic episode in the history of mankind, but let us also remember all the other holocausts that have gone on in recent times as well.

The first use of the word Holocaust was in the 13th Century when the Jews were expelled from England. (It earned King Edward I a good tax credit from the Pope). It comes from Holocaustum, meaning Totally Burnt. There have been many holocausts. Japan 1945, Cambodia in the 70's etc and they are just the recent ones. Hitstorically there have been many of them. Plains Indians, for example, or even the Clearing of the Glens.

As you said, this may be a red flag to some people, and I do not like to post controversial stuff just to stir things up, but I feel strongly about this.

          Best wishes, Hans

It is also the Anniversay of the Apollo 1 fire, so quite ironic really.

My wife and daughters are Jewish and whilst it is an important day that should be remembered, and had we been in Europe at the time we would have been in trouble, what I have noticed that a lot of Jewish people I know don't like to dwell on the issue, possibly to painful for them. My wife did not know that it was today even.

FYI, today was inspired by the need to remember the victims of the the Nazi atrocities but is to remember the victims of all genocide.

It was a period of time that none of us should forget and hopefully learn from.

Or the tragedies going on right now. (Not to equate them all with the holocaust, but to realize that the "elimination" of one is as bad as the "elimination" of many.)

                        I wasn't, now I am, then I won't be anymore.

Only a very little, hateful person could vote that down. Unfortunately, when you have the volume of members CP has, they're going to be there. And of course, none of them has the bollocks to back up their vote with a comment of why.

                          I wasn't, now I am, then I won't be anymore.

And how about all the other genocides?

"It is a remarkable fact that despite the worldwide expenditure of perhaps US$50 billion since 1990, and the efforts of tens of thousands of scientists worldwide, no human climate signal has yet been detected that is distinct from natural variation."
