I just had my father on the phone, he sounded a bit upset. Took one of his dogs to the vet, and returned alone. It was 16 years old, and had been frail for a while so it was not unexpected, but still very sad. It is the other dog I feel sorry for, he has lost his pal.

I had to euthenise my dog a few years ago, (she was 14) and I went into a depression. Odd that they get to you like that. I think of myself as cynical and hard bitten, but ended up on medication for a few months.

Think of all the money he will save on dog food, vets bills, kennels... Thats a few grand a year I reckon!

Obviously, you are not married and have no children at all, because that saves you a lot of money. What an odd way to see life...

Go back to your cubical. You obviously have never had a pet you cared about. They become part of the family and the loss is felt very keenly. The money is not thought of in the manner you suggest. I would not spend thousands to save a pet (I do not have that kind of money) but I have spend hundreds to save one. To illustrate peoples attachment to their pets notice the pet cemeteries around the USA. (Again I do not spend that kind of money on a pet.)

A few weeks back, in the space of a day, we had two rabbits die and my father. I also lost a hard disk and telephone and internet. :) Dont tell me about grief, I lost two days contracting money with the internet being down!

But on a brighter note, there was a great stew for dinner that evening.

Just the English sense of humour. I dont expect most people to understand it.

Well, they were such meager things, and the look on my daughters face really precluded any kind of gastronomic finale! :)
