...That a country so often seen with it's hands out begging for assistance can find $100Million to host the World Cup. Bangladesh[^] is very poor, and yet rather than spend this money on population control, education and flood defences it instead pisses it away on a competition in which it will only play in the group stage.

I assume it is hoping to get it back in spades from visitors... Fat chance.

I doubt very much they will. I know lots of people who travel all over the world to watch England play and not one of them wants to go to Bangladesh.

I bet the money comes from investors - probably international ones - that hope to recoup the expenses. I wouldn't be surprised if that money just flows through Bahrain withless than a percent sticking there.

Hence why most Bangladeshis come to the UK for a free lifestyle.

If you count the sponsorship money and TV royalties, Bangladesh is making far more than $100 million to host the world cup. It is another thing that they will still not spend that money on population control, education and flood defences.

I hope too. Gicen the natural conditions there (subject to high tides and cyclones) you need to invest in infrastructure.

My personal view at the time was to let Paris win it and have all the costs involved and the security nightmare, and those who wanted to see it could get on a train. I still think it was a huge mistake. We are pissing away Billions that could be spent on funding hospitals, schools and the Armed Forces.

I much prefer to see a poor country, where the population love the sport, get the WC. It is much better than the Football equivalent where the richest country get its. Anyone with half a brain can see that the Qatar 22 will be a complete farce.
