I believe I may have some form of intolerance to something in beer. I hardly ever get sick, I haven't had a stomach bug for years and I barely get a cold. But recently whenever I go out for a meal or some such by around 4am I'll have to get out of bed (if I'm in bed) because I feel rather ill. By around 6am (If i'm lucky) I'll throw up and I'll feel good again. I started keeping a log of what food I'd eaten each day when I felt ill and there didn't seem to be any common food between each day that I didn't eat every other day. But it has now dawned on me. I don't drink a lot, and when I do at home I usually drink cider. When I go out I always seem to get beer. Thinking back, I've had some nasty hangovers with nausea, dizziness, cold sweats etc. that have lasted up to 48 hours and in each case I believe I've had beer. Whereas in the instances where I've ditched the beer and just has spirits I've been just fine. I chalked it up to coincidence in the past but now I'm not so sure. Also, this evening I've had the enormous quantity of 1.5 pints, and now I don't feel too fantastic.

My current favourite phrase: I've seen better!

I have had such an experience with beer, but it faded into almost insignificant. I still got minor allergy symptoms after drinking lager, that I didn't get drinking vodka, or even Guinness. At one time I was drinking a lot of beer, and starting feeling very, very bad in the mornings, like my head was all swollen and red (it wasn't really). Interesting to note is that at the same time I became quite intolerant to nuts, which I had never experienced before.

The good part is this gives you an opportunity try out other interesting beverages like vodka and rum. :)

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.

Next step: rule out that the "going out" relationship. Maybe you are allergic to some other factor only involved when going for a beer. There are, basically, two ways: (a) drink beer at home, or (b) go out, and do everything the same, except not drinking beer (if Cidre seems ok, drink cidre instead). All your buddies will lauhg at you, but you can claim it's a religous thing. Turning up with a prayer mat under your arm might help.

I had something similar many years ago, which I ignored, but later was discovered to be a peptic ulcer. My advice: see your doctor soon.

I must get a clever new signature for 2011.

I think I have something similar - I seem to get sick from drinking a beer - normally it's the seventh... :-D

Recognizable; I can take as much as two beers, three on exception. I can't point to a single ingredient, but the combination of ingredients doesn't do me good. No problems with Rum or Tequilla (in moderation), but beer is like asking for trouble. It's probably got to do with the fact that my intestines don't work as they should. You simply cannot just accept this. You really must take a scientific approach to the whole matter. For one week at a time you should drink a different make of beer, three or four a night should do. Until you have proved conclusively that it is definitely beer that is the problem, or that it is one particular beer or beer from one particular brewer. This should only take four to five years. In order to reinforce the scientific rigour of these tests, you should take steps to eliminate the possibility of the placebo effect. One way to do this is to get a third-party to do the sampling. Therefore please send the beer to Henry Minute, 56 The L..................................................

When I used to drink I had similar experience. Mixed drinks = no hangover at all unless you go overboard and try to drink the whole bottle. beer = even a 6 pack can cause you terrible pain the next morning.
