Microsoft Mathematics 4.0 on Windows XP SP3
-
I was trying out Microsoft Mathematics 4.0[^] on Windows XP SP3 but I keep getting blue screen of death while messing with it. Has anyone else been able to keep this application running for more than 5 minutes? (On windows XP)

I think this was commented on a while back. Others were also having problems.
Best wishes, Hans

That doesn't add up...

I'm kinda puzzled how a user mode application can cause a BSOD... Unless its exposing some bug in a (eg) graphics driver. Crashing, that would not surprise me. Taking out your PC? Gosh! Iain,

Been using it for a while now on XP SP3 - it's never even crashed, let alone BSOD. Takes a while to load, but after that it's fine.

I broke it about a month ago, also while playing with graphing. Not 100% sure but I think it can't handle invalid parameters.

That would result in a crash. But the OP is talking about a BSOD, and I'd suspect that his graphics driver is playing foul.

True, true. I just got the "Microsoft Mathematics has experienced a problem......." message.

If it's a WPF application, it uses Direct3D (part of DirectX). If it's a native-mode application, it would not surprise me that it uses DirectX. In either case, that could readily expose video driver issues from a user-mode application, thereby causing a BSOD.
