If Windows Phone 7 UI is chic why people don't like it and buy it?

I am curious how many "loungers" consider the Zune inspired "tileish" UI better than the one on iPhone. Personally I find it superior and original, fluent and modern as opposed to iPhones stacked icons desktop which is by now a bit obsolete. Am I part of a minority when I think this way?

I find that the HTC Desire HD has the best UI. I have used and compared with iPhone. But Not with any Windows phone.

Mainly inertia and skepticism. A lot of people are turned off by the Windows brand, after being disappointed by the now defunct Windows Mobile. All the reviews I've seen mentioned the UI as one of the most attractive aspects. It was the lack of applications and some OS features that counted as cons. I'm also a WP7 owner (my first smartphone) and for me the thing is just a joy to use. I'm sure that with the first batch of WP7 powered Nokia devices we will see a boom in the adoption rate.

I like it, so I bought it :) It's not really vastly different, the large tiles are a cross between little icons and gadgets. What is different is when you're actually in an app, and when an app properly buys into the design of WP7, using huge cut off text and panomaric pictures that span many "pages", I think that's the difference and it looks great.

actually i have to say, much as i dislike MS generally these days and think their software is going badly down the quality hill, that the metro ui is quite cool i played with a friend from MS's phone over xmas / new year and it was nice ... still some very rough edges (and some technically bad things under the hood according to my friend) but a good start i think i should point out that i am very happily rocking a rooted htc desire running gingerbread and loving it :)

I've had my WP7 phone (Samsung Focus) since the US launch date and have loved it since the first day. Easy to use, beautiful to look at, extremely stable. I've seen people complain about the delays in getting the NoDo update out the door, but I'm willing to be patient since the initial experience has been so wonderful.

Because Microsoft + Phone is burned ground. If you ever considered buying a MS phone in the last decade, but held off for a month or two, all that remains is relief you didn't. So, "burned" is short for "burned, soaked in gasoline and burned again, soaked in lye, nuked, and painted killer-pink".

Still this UI may be one of the nicest original innovations from Microsoft. Most of the people responding have a positive opinion about it. I know they are not representative for the general public but they are the "smart" ones. Is it really a story of messing it up so bad for such a long time that regardless of anything you would do to fix it, you are doomed?

It also might be due to their head scratching ad campaign, which implied that their phone was better because you wouldn't want to use it as much as the other smart phones. (The "Really?" ads, which were actually quite funny.)
