Tsunami, Earthquakes are unavoidable true but radiation leaks could have been avoided there are some Security majors that every Nuclear power plant have wherein at the time of any leak they can disable the entire Reactor but than later on that Reactor has to be Scraped. According to some Nuclear Scientists this process of disabling reactor is called Reactor Poisoning. Is it that efforts made to save multi billion dollar Reactor exposed world to the horror of Nuclear Radiations

Think you've got it wrong there... They shut the reactors down as soon as the earthquake was detected. The problem is that the radioactive materials keep on generating heat even after the main reaction is shut down... They take several days to cool down, during which time they need to actively be cooled. THAT's what's causing the problem over there. That, along with all of their infrastructure being in pieces, thanks to the earthquake and tsunami.

I just posted photos for people to look at. I wasn't intending this to be a debate on nuclear reactors. However, this is the Soapbox...you never no what is going to happen. :)

Well, they disconnected everything for the grid. Unfortunately the cooling pumps are electric... And then they built the generators and fuel tanks on the seaward side without any water protection...

I wouldnt call it saved so if that was their intent they failed. Personaly, I dont think so. It seems like they genuinly lost cooling, and it started blowing up.

There's been a lot of research... One of the problems is that the Fukishima plant is 40 years old. Technology has come a long way since then.

Backup diesel generators for the cooling pumps (grid was down) were protected by a tsunami wall that afaik was about 3ft (1m) lower than the tsunami level so they were flooded and the backup backup batteries only last 8 hours.

Is there such a thing as a safe site in Japan? You need the power plants to be near a large water source. It had protection against tsunami's just not enough for a 8.9 generated one. I don't think the plant was even rated to withstand 8.9 quake. In the end all this accident did was get the fear of nuclear power back up, a shame.

Its clear they didnt design for anything klike the maximum tsunami Japan has had. Which is daft. With nuclear power you dont want to cut corners.

World need more research on controlling chain reaction of uranium we hope to see these things come under human command soon and source of Nuclear energy remains Blessing to mankind then after

It is not a chain reaction and there will not be an nuclear explosion. The explosions were from steam/pressure. It is the heat the uranium generates that is the problem. As stated before the poisoning should have stopped the process but lack of water cause a build up of heat. Once the uranium is exposed to the environment the radiation can escape. I guess you can call the contamination a chain reaction but in nuclear terms a chain reaction is something else.
