Securing information
-
I'm increasing amused at people's surprise about how secure their information isn't. http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/04/27/us-sony-hacking-users-idUSTRE73Q3IS20110427[^] Banks' software venders don't secure their customers information all that well. I worked as one and we didn't. I mean look at how people just put all kinds of crap on Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, etc. Email isn't really all that secure and people use that all the time to pass things they shouldn't. About a month ago I'd read an exploit in how cookies are secured on websites and that most "secure" websites don't encrypt this information. Apparently it allowed the author to impersonate the identity of people at the public wifi cafe.
That's called seagull management (or sometimes pigeon management)... Fly in, flap your arms and squawk a lot, crap all over everything and fly out again... by _Damian S_

I worked for four years at TJX Companies and spent some of my time trying to convince them that they needed to spend time and personnel on securing their systems. The last memo I wrote before leaving in 2004 dealt with this issue. 45.7 million credit cards numbers stolen later.[^]
