It is same as having a pron subsite in your official website. No one will visit it, right? Sorry Simon if you feel offended.

I agree, don't mix them up. Call me inhuman, but if I am to hire someone, I'd want him to let his private stuff home. So make a company website, maybe with your tech related stuff, and move the rest to another web site. And btw, dark gray on black background is not really readable.

Bride: nude, Groom: Jedi. All underwater. That would be a popular wedding album.

I'm just going to be blunt. Nobody really cares to look at stranger's wedding pictures anyway. Unless you were married underwater, in the nude, or in full Jedi garb, the only people browsing it will be seeing which one of you could do better. I'm not trying to be mean, just honest.

Don't worry, no offence taken. (and I agree really, the wedding pics were there for extended family who wanted to see, but most of whom didn't use facebook. Now that's actually kind of changed a bit and even my nan is on facebook  )

If it's a personal website, put whatever you want. Include pictures of food that you cooked, and pictures of you eating it. Because it's personal, and nobody cares about all that. But if it's a professional website, it's advisable not to keep your private stuff in there. Nobody will be interested in it, and it may distract (and possibly annoy) people who are browsing through your website, trying to look up details on the kind of work you've done. PS: I looked up microsoft.com and I couldn't find Bill's wedding gallery.

I think this is totally the key. It is entirely a personal site, it just happens that I spend a lot of my personal time doing techy stuff and programming. I am building a professional website that will not contain random family photos and will only contain professional topics. Of course my business cards will only contain the company site link etc.

They were probably removed when he changed his focus to his own foundation. Try looking for Steve Ballmers? Also, you might want to search for the pictures from their latest company christmas party - I hear that Connie (Steve's wife) got seriously drunk and started flirting with the mail room supervisor... ;)

A friend raised a point today about my personal website. It's mainly a site of tech related stuff where I post about programming projects, or stuff I'm working on, but I also have pictures from my wedding, and some galleries from other things, like days out with the family, etc. He said that the wedding and personal pics should be removed because it would put employers off especially given that I've just started freelance work. I thought that perhaps employers would benefit from a fully rounded view of an individual. (I am of course building a proper company website that obviously will be entirely professional and will not include any wedding pics) What do you guys think? Do you keep personal and tech separate to avoid potential employers seeing, or do you just mix them all up.

You should split the personal and professional sites. but in any cases, most employers will google you anyway and look at the pictures.

To be honest I wouldn't recommend it, the penguins weren't hard to find and the trainer was a dream! But they do smell of fish and they have got really sharp beaks! :-D
