Where I work we regularly have disaster recovery (DR) exercises. Today during a scheduled DR meeting, one in which we were hearing the details of the upcoming test, someone actually interrupted the organizer to say, "Wait, you said that at 8 AM you are declaring a disaster... and you are going to turn off the mainframe?" Unfortunately, it sounded like English was his 'first language'. I'm sure he was new, but seriously? Did you have to ask that? [sigh] [EDIT: changed icon to Rant]
Disaster Recovery is not about knowing whether you can recover from a Disaster. It's actually about figuring out whether your organization IS A disaster. I've seen things. Terrible things that no man should have to see. How about someone who exerts more effort covering up the fact that they aren't doing their job, than would be required to actually do their job? Yes folks that one came out in an offsite DR session. -Rd

I worked at one place where an audit concluded that it was taking 14 months to do the annual budget. Honest.

Always brings a chuckle......fortunately it is usually something non critical e.g. a water maker, and not something critical like a power turbine!

Every so often (usually the relatively new guys) if asked to go do something during a drill, e.g. isolate a piece of running equipment, actually go and turn it off. Always brings a chuckle......fortunately it is usually something non critical e.g. a water maker, and not something critical like a power turbine!
