Claude Choules, the last known combatant in the first World War has died in a nursing home in Perth, according to the BBC[^], may he rest in peace. I read his autobiography last summer, and he was fascinating man. World War I is, I guess, finally over!

His death breaks another link with the past. They played part of an interview with him on the radio this morning, he said he had a good life and a blessed life and if he had his time again he wouldn't change a thing. How many of us could say that? My great grandfather died on the Somme and my father has tales of growing up in interwar Halifax (England) and all the WWI veterans who were around, many severely damaged physically or mentally
