Got a bargain (here in South Africa at least)

Went to an auction on Saturday and acquired a 2004 Jeep Cherokee 2.8 CRD(Jeep Liberty for those in the US) for R22500 (US$ 3,339). My budget was R90000 (US$ 13000) The vehicle has only 94000km on the clock and is in mint condition. The car was a bank repossessed vehicle and the last lot. To my great surprise (and luck) nobody bid any higher then me, and I got the car. A similar vehicle went for 5 times the amount earlier in the day. At a second hand car dealer you could easily pay R 120000 (US$ 17,000) Since lady luck is smiling upon me, I am going to by a lotto ticket this weekend, who knows maybe I'll win that too. I know many of you guys in the US and Europe are going to say that I still payed to much. Just keep in mind that cars (and houses) are very expensive in South Africa in relation to what we earn here. The buying power of the Rand is really crap.

Congrats, this price is extremely good even for US/In Europe the cars ARE expensive/. In a similar auction two years ago a co-worker got one year old Mercedes C-class for $19 000.

That sound's pretty rough down there. I got a '05 Cherokee 5.7L with 42k miles for US$16k last fall, would that run ~22k in SA?

Definetly 22k and upwards. Teh funny thing is that the Grand Cherokee's are chepaer then the Libertys when buying second hand. New the liberty goes for about US$ 66000.

What???? 66k for a new Liberty? I think they are 25k here. That is absolutely mad! Are they at least diesel? Can't get those here.
