The first five or so parts of that represent my experience with Rackspace when I signed up with them earlier this year. Cheers, Drew.

I had a similar issue with registering on a site, and after I finally got a password to validate it said my username was invalid because it needed a combo of alpha and numbers...And that's when I gave up.

Not sure if this is a repost, but I hadn't seen it before so I thought I'd share: Password Validation[^]

I believe I have almost gone through that last week.. I can't remember the site though (oops). Worse yet for every try I had to answer a captcha.

Still better than the American Express website where they don't allow passwords longer than 8 characters.

I would much prefer if i were trusted to select my own password. My security, my responsibility. Guide me and advise me, sure... but dont force me.

imagine how much fun it would be if you were trying to create that account on a mobile device

If it were something like your own bank account website, I'd agree. But at my company the users who log in to our site are then provided with their customer's personal information...and I'd feel much better as a customer knowing that people who have access to my information are forced to keep up with simple security measures....of course the more complicated the security the more likely the password is written on a post-it right next to the user's computer. :)

Oh yes, good point! I guess we'll just have to wait for Judge-Dreddesque dna-sampling technology of the future to replace password protection :(

My favorite is when they tell you to mix numbers, upper and lowercase letters, and at least one "special" character. Oh, but not that character, or that one, etc. Just keep guessing until you figure our which character is "special" enough, 'cause, you know, it would have been too hard for us to give you a list to choose from!. :sigh:

                        Much like the telephone-tree. Especially if you need to use voice instead of the keypad. . . . and . . . . . . after a while . . . . . . you are informed . . . . . . that they are closed, please call back during business hours . . .

Hah Hah! So funny, yet so true :/ I had a site where it's like: * Tap Tap Tap * *Submit* Error - Your password must be between 3 - 6 characters long * Tap Tap Tap * *Submit* Error - Your password can only contain alphanumeric characters * Tap Tap Tap * *Submit* Your password can not contain any upper-case characters :omg: *Quit Site* Worst I had on some lame haxoring site was: "Your password must be at least 21 characters long, and must contain at least 5 special characters, 5 numbers, and 5 capital letters" :wtf:
