So we're having this big, new, off the shelf package installed, configured and customised by an external company. I discovered that in one of the areas 2 of the 4 possible business scenarios do not work. Response came through today. On one of them "That is not a valid scenario". On the other "I can't see why that doesn't work, you must have made a testing error". So to avoid replying to the email honestly and getting fired I locked my PC, walked to my car, got in and drove away. When I came back I was greeted by another email, forwarded to me, which was essentially one person demanding of another that my time is made available to them as and when they want it. Incidentally I report to neither of these people, but at least the second had the decency to talk to me about it. Then a support monkey comes over to tell me he has logged a call to me for a system I wrote some of and am now the only developer left with any knowledge of. The problem being that 3 new users have not been setup by the System Admin. Because I am the only developer with knowledge of this system they don't read the problem, just dump it straight at my desk. Had one a couple of weeks ago where the toughbook had been setup with the wrong date format, the call said "last time this happened the date format was wrong", yet still it came to me. Sent the call back with a terse comment that this should come nowhere near me in future - I fear it will have no effect. And then once I manage to try to do some of my own work I discovered that some fool was running a data import on a system without turning off the integration - as they had been told to do on Monday after they did this a couple of weeks ago[^]. This would be a great place to work if I killed everyone else.

Every man can tell how many goats or sheep he possesses, but not how many friends.

I imagine the exits are clearly marked. Just GTFO. My only regret from some of my older jobs is that I did not leave when the idiocy piled up. I would hang in hoping it would get better again only to see it spiral into a bigger mess. Save your time and sanity. Abandon ship. You will be happier for having removed yourself form a situation you didn't like.

How did that buffet turn out? The images online look delicious...

The Italian was a dodgy looking pasta and one pizza, the Chinese was a bit ropey, the Thai OK and the Indian superb. Also the starters were excellent. I didn't eat again until half six the next evening, and then only a sandwich and felt full again. I will definitely make a return visit.
