After 20 years of merrage

One night the wife woke up in the middle of the night and found her husband sitting and crying so she ask him what is worng he replied do you remember the day we meet 20 years ago and when your dad catch us under the tree and told me either marry you or send you 20 years in jail, tyhe wifes replyied sure I do but why you are drying? The husband replied I could have gone out of jail today after 20 years if I didn't marry you.
What was he doing that a father would send him to jail for 20 years? Is the father a Judge? Is there no Habius Corpus system in place? Is there no Due Process? What of reducing Tariffs or Parole? I think we need to know the full facts of the case before committing ourselves to hastily.

I would guess it depends on how old he was and how she was or alternatively they are from Norfolk!
