http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/07/06/us-newscorp-hacking-events-idUSTRE7652IZ20110706[^] You guys have probably seen something about this already, but how big is this in the UK? This could explain a lot over here if it weren't for how stupid people are here in the US about blabbing everything to everyone.

Well, who doesn't release stuff like that ? Microsoft software is just as bad. Christian Graus That's called seagull management (or sometimes pigeon management)... Fly in, flap your arms and squawk a lot, crap all over everything and fly out again... by _Damian S_

At the moment it is huge. They hacked into telephones belonging to murdered schoolgirls, terrorist bomb victims and families of the dead. It is emerging that police officers have been bribed to give details of cases, and that is why the police were reluctant to investigate, too many skeletons in that particular cupboard. The Editor at the time is now so sucked up Murdoch that she will not resign. Cameron's previous head of communications is now the Editor, and emails have been leaked showing what he knew of the affair. Lots of advertisers are dropping away from the News of the World, and many have sworn not to buy the paper this Sunday. See Here for more details[^]

News of the Screws is the lowest of the low, always has been as far as I can remember. They do not report the news, they attempt to make it. I do not believe for one second that many aspects of the gutter press are involved in similar, but for this excuse of a newspaper to be driven from business and criminal prosecutions all round would be a very good start. I know a number of large retail organisations are looking at the contracts they have for distributing the rag to see if they can get out of carrying it at all.

Every man can tell how many goats or sheep he possesses, but not how many friends.

Couldn't come too soon IMO, I have a very low regard for newspapers in general (worked too long in the industry) and especially The News of the World and The Sun.

It's all pretty dispicable, but this is the lowest of the low. http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/jul/04/milly-dowler-voicemail-hacked-news-of-world[^]

...News of the World journalists intercepted – and deleted – the voicemail messages of Milly Dowler. The messages were deleted by journalists in the first few days after Milly's disappearance in order to free up space for more messages. As a result friends and relatives of Milly concluded wrongly that she might still be alive. Police feared evidence may have been destroyed

Whilst I find the various revalations both appalling and disturbing, what I find interesting is the slow drip feed we're getting about these 'stories' with each one being seemingly more appalling than the one before. Given the fairly consistent and ongoing bad press we've had about our politicians and police force(s), (i.e., expenses scandal, Ian Tomlinson etc.), in recent times I do have to wonder how much of this is a fairly open demonstration to the british media by the 'establishment' that if they don't toe the line, and start doing so pretty sharpish, they too can get pretty much shredded. Now where did I leave that shiney tin foil hat?...
