Nice job! I am going on another cross country tour in about 3 weeks, will be out for a month or more and plan on taking a bunch of pictures with my new Nikon D5000 camera. I got a 18mm-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 stock lens and bought a 55mm-200 1:4-5.6 telephoto lens. I plan on taking mostly landscape photos to you think I will be OK. I'd thought about getting a 35mm 1.8 lens but...considering. Any thoughts?, advice, hints?

Thanks Mike. Well generally i use my 18-55 kit lens for landscape and 22-250 for closeup. i think the lens you have should be good enough. best of luck for your trip and do post the pictures. :-)

Very good indeed :) I really like the color photos - I used to be black and white only photos person. You probably know more about this than me - however if your camera has a histogram chart you may want to see if you can set things so that you get less white in the colour photographs - the only suggestion I can give really. Other than than you have a real eye for composition which is 95% of what makes a great photo. Well done :)

A "small" fast 35mm prime lens is very convenient when you want to just go light-weight or when the lighting is not good. I bought a pentax 35mm 2.8 macro[^] recently and it's been on my camera half the time since then. I use this[^] as my travelling lens since I can't be asked to drag all that kit around. I'm sure Nikon will have a similar offering. I'm considering buying this[^] (or an equivalent): carrying a DSLR is fun for 5 minutes then gets heavy and boring.

Thanks Man. yes it does have the histogram but i do not use it much...some time it works for me and sometime it does not and i end up with a washout/Dark image. Still learning to use it.

The first trip I made back in April-May I used an inexpensive Sanyo and it took fairly good pictures and was pocket size so it was perfect. But I also had an old Nikon N6006 film camera I bought in the 1990s for those times when we stopped in an area where I could take time and snap. So this time we may be going as far up as Alaska and I will have a lot of free time to shoot and want the shots to count. That's the reason I was asking the OP about lenses as I want to be able to take some nice shots given the terrain.

see response I gave to digital man. Once I leave I won't have the opportunity to order one and they are pretty scarce so chances are I won't find one while traveling.

Those are some nice pictures, I like the picture of the boy, nice expression. I just got myself a Nikon D3100 and have not yet explored it, I am still using it in the auto mode :|.
