I just ran into this article at ComputerWorld. It appears that EarthWeb is getting out of the content business and will focus strictly on their dice.com IT jobs marketplace. CodeGuru.com and a number of other EarthWeb sites will be sold to Internet.com and roughly 90 people will lose their jobs. It will be very interesting to see what this means for CodeGuru's future, and what kind of transition issues might happen. Last time I checked the vast majority of Internet.com's web sites were focused on opensource and Linux, although I think www.15seconds.com, www.vbwire.com and a handful of other internet.com sites are focused on Windows Development. I also thought it was interesting that the CodeGuru.com site was listed by Earthweb 12th out of the 15 sites they say they sold in their press release. Makes you think it really wasn't top of mind with them. I thought it was particularly interesting that they sold the EarthWeb.com site (which is of course their current company name). What do you guys think this means?

Judging by the tone of recent dice ads, it seems earthweb management sees developers as a shallow, money driven lot who only care about trading up to the highest bidder. I find that revolting. It's a shame about CG, I mean, I sure hope someone will host it... but good things often come to an end sooner than we would like... and with the way the market has been going lately... well, it's not suprising. Thanks for passing on the info. Roger

3 months down... Naahh, CodeGuru didn't really rise to the old standards after EarthWeb got "behind" it. So again it's hats off for Chris again for putting in the effort of doing The CodeProject!

Thanks Dave. I heard rumours of this before you posted and emailed Tom Archer to see what was happening. Hopefully Tom can shed some light on what this means. Tom put a lot of work into CodeGuru so I certainly hope he gets to stay on with Internet.com and keep the old site up to standards. cheers, Chris Maunder

I intended to refer to the people who are responsible for the attitude expressed in recent Dice ads. If I refered to managers in general I apologize for communicating poorly. :-O

Who gives a Schmuck? The very day I saw that CodeProject had started I removed all bookmarks to CodeGuru and have never visited that site again.

I didn't know one could give a schmuck, but.... I agree totally, the only reason I would still visit codeguru is that their forums are much more populous and therefore more likely to get an answer. But I make a point of answering questions here - wait, that might be why people are asking more there ??? :-) Christian The content of this post is not necessarily the opinion of my yadda yadda yadda. To understand recursion, we must first understand recursion.
