GC North Rim
-
Will be heading over to LV and the North Rim this long weekend. Any recommendations on which spot not to be missed vs. the ones which can be avoided? I hope the North Rim won't be as crowded as the south, and we're on a very tight budget as we're also in the middle of a home move. Anything that must not be missed in LV? We'll be there Saturday early morning and spend the whole day and plan on driving to the GC early morning Sunday. Thanks.

I've never been to the North Rim, but it is on my List of Places to Visit. Last winter my friend went to the South Rim and got some good photographs of the canyon in the snow. I want to do that too. I also want to go to: http://www.grandcanyonskywalk.com/about-the-skywalk/photos-gallery/[^] I thought the walkway was on the North Rim, but they call this the West Rim. Not as far, by half. Have fun and be safe.
Rhoadie: You need me to do anything else? Ironman: Keep the skies clear.

Been there once, going again next month. Unlike the south rim, there isn't a nice liesurely rim trail and historic buildings. We did take the trail from the lodge to Bright Angel Point, and drove out to Point Imperial. Point Sublime was very nice as well, but the road requires a high clearance vehicle. My wife is trying to think of places we didn't get to last time. She mentioned House Rock Canyon, which we understand is home to bison. If there are kids involved, have them do a Junior Ranger packet.

We wanted to do the skywalk ourselves, but it's too expensive and falls out of our trip budget. We're planning to do that when we visit the South/West rim next time. Actually, one of the main reasons for choosing to go North was that it'll close down next month or so for the winter. We figured that we can visit the South rim late this year or early next. Thank You.

That's a bunch of places I haven't heard of, Thank You. I wish we'd rented out a SUV, but it's too late now and it's booked out.

I'd recommend missing LV altogether. I've lived just south of it for almost 20 years, and still have no fond memories of visiting there. The nicest view of Las Vegas I've seen so far is the exit from the freeway to Bullhead City, and for the record, Bullhead City sucks.
Will Rogers never met me.

Yeah, and I have no idea about gambling either. I think I'll talk my lady out of spending the day in LV and instead, drive over to the Canyons. Thanks.

Lake Mead, Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire State Park... Yeah, don't gamble unless you study the games first... and once you study the games you won't want to play. :-D
