Fruitcakes!!! Yep, I was inspired by so many members coming out of the closet, that I decided to declare my love of fruitcakes. [ Please note: I am talking about the real thing here, not the fruitloops who have been having presidential debates in the U.S. ] I have researched this extensively, and sampled many different brands. IMHO, there is a clear winner: Fruitcakes from Assumption Abbey. These 2-lb. fruitcakes are "traditional" - dark, rich, baked slowly and then aged. Above all, they are cakes; the fruit does not overwhelm. Highly recommended.
Best wishes, Hans

Indeed. I need to see what I can do to convince my mother to make some this year. A little financial help might be in order, as good ingredients aren't cheap.

Oooooh! Good choice! Y'know, I ought to bake one for my -shamless self plug post warning- food blog[^] , barring the aging because I doubt I can find Cognac that would do it justice here in Jordan...

They should be moist (full of rum and/or brandy) and covered in apricot jam, marzipan and royal icing :)
