They have been putting updates on servers this week. One of the updates disallows using \\server\C$. Now I understand why but it has broken legacy processes. It also broke the Microsoft SQL Server Log Shipping I had setup using the MS wizard so you would think it would be safe. How silly of me. Of course the processes that broke were written by former employees who used Perl and PowerShell, neither of which I am fluent in. Done with my rant. :-O

So your title should actually be "Dang former employees who don't understand security" Not as catchy, I grant you, but much more accurate.

I would rather complain about MS as I have had a love/hate relationship for many years with them. :)

Oooh, I can add to this one. Last week a regular overnight MS update went wild and caused my VS2010 to crash at its splash screen, even in safe mode. Event Viewer said it was an internal .net problem, with clr.dll. Not good. So I rolled those updates back, rebooted, and was okay. A coworker of mine was not so lucky. The updates caused her Windows 7 to BSOD at *its* splash screen, repeatedly. Had to ship it back to tech support for reinstallation of the whole thing. Since the whole interbun was not alight with similar complaints, we think it was caused by the particular whole-disk encryption that my company uses. But still... seems really sloppy.
