Pirates ahoy

If they do this 2 or 3 times the piracy will probably stop. Good job.

They have to do what the Russian SF did about a year ago in the same situation – just let them go free…in a inflated boat, no water, no food, no navigation equipment, 400 miles to the nearest coast. And don't forget to wish them fuckers luck! My first cousin is an officer on a freighter and they live in a constant fear every time they have to cross these waters.:mad:

Dont they have any kinds of arms on ships? I wuld have expected at lease a few rifles/shorguns, if not perhaps a decent GPMG. What do pirates have that this kind of weaponry, and a steel hull not scare off?
============================== Nothing to say.

Sadly, I think they will merely escalate. Marc

Hmm, up to now I know only one person who would be delighted to have some pirates shooting at him and return the courtesy immediately. Except for that, you can count on it that they will have some automatic weapons like a well used AK-47 and perhaps even one or another old machinegun or anti tank weapon. A few rifles and shotguns may not be quite enough to scare them off and may only get the pirates angry. And you may also take into account that the sailors probably are not veteran soldiers and may not react well to bullets flying around their heads.
And from the clouds a mighty voice spoke:
"Smile and be happy, for it could come worse!"And I smiled and was happy
And it came worse. -

IANAL, but I believe usually no. I think international maritime laws forbid it. A lot of countries are a little nervous about heavily armed ships sailing into their harbors, even if they are supposed to be "merchant men".

Nope, there are no weapons at all; it’s prohibited from the international laws. They train them to use the water guns to wash out the pirates from the deck! WTF?! Imagine a few pirates armed with an AK 47 running towards you, and you're sitting there in your pretty white uniform holding your ground and pointing some fire hose. Your only chance is if they die from laughter before making from you a colander.

I rather like this in a weird, twisted way.

Where were they?
The 56,000-tonne bulk carrier Montecristo was hijacked 620 miles (1,000 miles) off Somalia
-
Throw them overboard. Saves putting them on trial and gives the marine life something to chew on. Dead pirates cannot commit another offence.

Damn, thats tight. I would have thought weapons for self defence wered OK, given how piracy has always been an issue at sea. Its not as if you could invade a country with a couple of GPMGs and a Bofors gun, but it would shure make a mess of the kind of craft the pirates run around in. :)
