So we had a big painting project in the house that required the disassembly and re-assembly of our entertainment "center". Phone, TV, Cable, VCR/DVD player, Internet router, and wireless router all had to be separated from a piece of furniture. I carefully labelled everything as it was being dis-assembled. Then re-assembled it outside of the piece of furniture. Weeks went by as the furniture was stained, walls were painted, and so on. Today I picked up the cable mess from the floor to disassmble and re-assemble again, around the same piece of furniture. After disassembling everything I picked up the boxes, and as I pulled the cables away... I fine snow-like bed of labels lay underneath the cables. All with my careful little markings indicating which box or cable they went with.

Ooo! Fun! I too label my cables - I have a small labeller similar to this[^] which I religiously label both ends of everything. My word, but it saves some time! And if you bother to read them (which my wife doesn't) it really helps!

Real men don't use instructions. They are only the manufacturers opinion on how to put the thing together. Manfred R. Bihy: "Looks as if OP is learning resistant."

It saved time the first round. Probably took only 15 minutes with labels attached. A label maker might have saved me considering how that stuff tends to be made. When I've done sysadmin stuff I prefer to use a label maker like the one you showed. On the second round- It only took 40 minutes to put it all back together with the labels taking their untimely respite. It could have been worse but it was amusing since I'd thought I'd been so very careful.
