The newsletter had a link about being a bad programmer[^] that suggested as an alternate career becoming a Civil Engineer. Bad idea. I don't want any more bridges falling down because some Engineer can't think. Well, at least they would have to earn their BS and if they don't have the characteristics needed to be a good programmer, they shouldn't get passing grades to foist themselves on us as a Civil Engineer. 40 years ago, the term "Computer Engineer" didn't exist. There's a good reason why that term is desirable.
About 35 years ago the term surfaced at my school, in the form of a BS in Computer and Electronics Engineering. The curriculum was so watered down I thought it would be better taught at a junior college. They took all the trivial digital classes and bundled them, tossed out the hard classes that make electronics engineers engineers, and added some simple programming classes to round out the menu of easy 'A's. In retrospect, though, those who took the easy route would have been in their prime earning years when the dotcom boom occurred, and they probably all retired rich at a young age, while the rest of us diehard applied physicists are still working. :doh: Of course, back then, we didn't have any computer engineers to help us design computers, but we needed civil engineers to install them. One of the school's computers required a brick wall to be removed and a crane hired to swing it into place. The wall was rebuilt, brick by brick, behind it. :-D

I'd prefer it if they left it rectangular to fit into the rectangular hole.

If a door doesn't hang straight it's because the hinge posts in the frame aren't aligned correctly, unless the hinge fixtures on the door have been damaged or bent. Make sure the top one is screwed in tightly and hasn't pulled out over the years. If things are really bad you might need to remove some material from behind it (but if the frame has warped, a straight door might not actually fit any more).

I tried studying civil engineering. I eventually gave it up (the studying, I never did any civil engineering), the only subject I was good at was Fortran. :-D
