I'm just not bored enough to click those links (admiring penis art probably comes a decent ways past the "cut myself and paint the walls red" stage, shortly before "tattoo eyeballs with remains of ballpoint pen"), but would like to bring up something that's been puzzling me for a while... ... why are there forums for everything? I can understand, in some cynical way, how websites can spring up for every imaginable topic and plenty more that really can't be imagined with standard-issue equipment, BUT - how the hell do you convince other people to participate in this madness? It's not like they're even activities - i mean, you can see how collectors of plastic pink flamingoes might find it advantageous to share knowledge and experiences on their hobby, perhaps swapping tips on the best way to get them to fade unevenly - but what would cause a man, sitting at home with his natural fur coat and odd-shaped appendage, to suddenly decide he really needs to interact with lots of people similarly afflicted from all strange corners of the globe? Loneliness? Boredom? Relief in the sense of shared misery? My theory is simple: As a society, we just don't have enough shame. Look around you - greed, envy, jealousy, anger, happiness, lust... they all are available in generous supply. But what about shame? All around me are fat people getting fatter, bald people getting balder, dead people getting deader, people with gray eyes staying people with gray eyes. And not a one of them cares! Or if they do, they try to hide it! Shame has become a shameful thing! Well, this has got to end. It's time we took a stand and said "i have odd physical and mental deformities, and i'm ashamed of them!" No more will i try to pretend it's "ok" to be different, "all right" to make other, more normal people, uncomfortable, "just fine" to waste valuable time and space that could be used for storing more important things (like drinking jars. d'ja ever think how incredible these things are? you can use them as storage, for drinking, as a hammer in a pinch if you're hammering something soft, and they even fit directly onto most blenders!). So join me, won't you? And stand up for your right to cower in shame about things you can't help.
