I know that Microsoft uses sandcastle to generate all their API docs from code, however, does anyone know what tool they use to generate all the other how to articles in MSDN?
I'm not sure if DocStudio is still the current tool. I think I've heard the MSDN guys saying there a new doc production tool. DocStudio was basically Word with a SQL database backend. The authoring doc contained lots of metatags for formatting and topic/keyword crosslinks. The build system would process the word doc, inserting data into the metatags and produce the formatted output document (CHM, HTML, HSX, etc). It was a pretty clumsy system for authoring but it scaled well for huge projects.

Great... now I have to change the name of my current development project... In about 50 years I guess you will start seeing application names like: 1fadsfdasf because all of the good names have been trademarked. :wtf: Best Wishes, -David Delaune

sheesh tough crowd tonight Not that I was really expecting a guffaw but I would have settled for so much as a chortle or even knee slap... Just for the record I keed Microsoft but my livelihood has for the most part been dependent on its software for the past 20 years, cobbled together as it may be.... .NET continues to prove itself to be the the most productive framework that I've worked with in all these years and C# just fits like a comfy glove as a language of choice. But it is always still nogastically humorous anytime you have to still have to DLLImport and extern into GetActiveWindow() and other Win32 API leftovers to get to some lower-level stuff! :)

This is correct. Also Technical Writers and even a few Technical Editors who escaped the Great Purges.
