Welcome to Fruita

So what lovely slogan do you think they picked to welcome people to Fruita? http://now.msn.com/now/0221-fruita-colorado-slogan.aspx[^] I would think if I lived there I'd push the slogan because our stickers would be all over the country in no time.

I live in Colorado and I've never heard of Fruita...but the town of Golden does similar stickers, but they put "Au" on them. I thought those were pretty clever.
It's on the west slope next to Grand Junction. Fruita is a little closer to Utah, and Palisade is on the East. It is famous for Mike the Headless Chicken: http://www.miketheheadlesschicken.org/[^] And is a big draw for some mountain biker bicycle race. A lot of cyclists hit there during the summer. I have/had family living not too far away in Grand Junction and spent some summers in the area when growing up. I'd like to see the Golden stickers. I don't think I saw those. Au. Very nice.

That would be why. I've spent the majority of my time in Colorado in the area from Colorado Springs to Denver. I actually had an offer for an interview for an internship in Grand Junction, then I realized how far away Grand Junction was. I had assumed with the number of signs around Denver for highways going there it was at most an hour. I was very wrong...as you can probably guess, I'm not a native of CO.

I use to own fruita.com, I sold it off a couple of years ago. Not sure if the city ever got it,

Don't ever move to the Grand Junction area unless you want life to SLOOOOWWWWW DOWWWWWWN. If you had six months to live, you could move there and have another 20 years. Or it would seem like it. Still, they have lots of cool vineyards. And if you love the outdoors they are central to a lot of things to do outside. And the weather is suitable for the vineyards, so pretty mild by Denver's standards. One of the problems you would have seen if you'd gotten a paying job there is that you can't easily put together enough umph to get out and go to a bigger city. Usually money but sometimes it's experience or tech skill. Most companies there are staffed by people who want the lifestyle of the place. And if you get turned out of your job as a techie you'd have trouble finding your next gig without having to move. A paradise and a hell. Just depends on who you are. You should- therefore- visit it sometime. :-D

How did you end up with such a domain? Doing a little cyber-squatting or just had a hankering?

In Berkeley, CA, all the fire trucks have these huge letters on them: BFD I suspect the powers that be were aware of it, but didn't think it was such a bfd.
